Be the Change

A sentiment that is often shared. It’s an idea of hope, but one that implies that you have to work for it – on yourself, for and in your community, and the world at large. That work is seldom easy, but experiencing the progress and, if you’re lucky, seeing the end result is joyful. That’s why no matter how difficult or how many setbacks might be experienced, people persist and carry on with being that change.

Since GetDiversityCertified is not located near a Giant Food, we’ve only recently learned about a program to inspire a change towards conscious consumerism. Giant implemented a store tag program to call attention to diverse owned products on their shelves.

Sample store product price tags indicating if the product is Black-Owned, Hispanic-Owned, Women-Owned, or Veteran-Owned. A purple square is used on the tag to visually make the designations stand out.

We believe wholeheartedly that this is a fabulous idea. We hope product tagging like this spreads through other Ahold Delhaize grocers and into retailers nationwide. Buying from diverse owned businesses is one of the most profound ways to show support. That’s easier said than done, as few of us have the time to research every company and product available.

Giant Food stepped up to make identifying those potential purchases easy for consumers. The program is a credit to them and their team, and we appreciate the effort it took to make it happen.

Being the change for, and the partner and ally of diverse owned businesses, is starting initiatives like this so we can all act more intentionally.
