Colorful Arms

Spending some time on Facebook last week, I saw that a photographer friend had re-posted a photograph that really caught my attention:

Colorful Arms

Found on Facebook – a picture is worth a thousand words!

This reminded me that supplier diversity has its roots in the equal opportunity legislation of the late 1960s and early 1970s that we’ve written about in the past. In 1971, federal agencies were directed to develop comprehensive plans and specific program goals for a national Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) contracting program. While in 1983, each federal agency with substantial procurement or grant making authority was required to develop a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) development plan. Women, veterans, the disabled and LGBT businesses have been added to these programs over time.

And isn’t this our ultimate goal, a level playing field for all SDMWVBE (Small, Disadvantaged, Minority, Women, or Veteran Business Enterprise), disabled or LGBT businesses?
